Share Your Bounty with Other Backyard Gardeners

An interest in developing a sustainable lifestyle led my husband and me to move to the country. Upon moving into our new home, our priority was to develop the majority of our backyard into a fruit and vegetable garden with the goal of producing a harvest that was hearty enough to substantially reduce our grocery bill.

To our delight, our backyard garden was successful and did produce… more than we could anticipate. So, I started looking into ways to share our bounty and found an interesting web site that is the perfect solution. The web site is www.LemonsForLimes.com. LemonsForLimes is a place where backyard gardeners can trade garden produce and tree ripened fruit with other gardeners. LemonsForLimes is a wonderfully organized harvest exchange system. The trading is based on a point system. You get points for trading your fresh produce and fruit, which can be used in exchange for fresh produce and fruit from other gardeners. Lori Barudoni is the founder of LemonsForLimes.com, and on her web site, Barudoni says, “You can share some of your garden bounty now, and then at anytime in the future use those points to pick up fresh produce of your choice from others.” The system sounds easy to manage and is an excellent way to keep vegetables and fruit from going to waste. Plus, you may even meet a few friends.

The cost to become a member of LemonsForLimes is $5.95 per year and $1.00 of every membership fee goes to a charity called Samaritan’s Purse, an organization dedicated to bringing clean water to communities in need. For more information about Samaritan’s Purse, visit their web site at www.SamaritansPurse.org/water. On the LemonsForLimes web site, Barudoni has a video that explains how the LemonsForLimes program operates. Please visit her web site at www.LemonsForLimes.com; watch the video on the home page to learn more and then, start bagging up the bounty from your backyard garden and start trading!

Thank you, katyzzz. When I first started growing my garden, I realized I would have too much of everything I grew, but not enough space to grow everything I wanted. I discovered this was a concern for all gardeners. So, when I heard about the bounty exchange concept, I was thrilled. You also get to meet some really nice people in the process of exchanging goods.
